pressure working against the latch, coil spring, while the door is closed.

They would not feel more static tension because of the new door seals, but
they, as well as the rest of the door parts, probably do get more shock stress
as you slam the door harder to get them to latch.


These springs seem to just wear out on the ends and break. It's strange that
this problem hasn't come up here before, and stranger still that I haven't had
to fix any of these for about the past 10 years. There were a few years in the
80s when I saw a number of them. That was when I first came across the problem
and had to learn the cause.
