Hours on the road ? IIRC, we did rather long days and tried to stop at convenient places along the way. Russ's in Iowa is one good place to stop, because he really does have LOTS of room, and he certainly made us welcome there. > Humm....May need 2 support vehicles for this road trip.. We had no support vehicles other than each other. Everyone had thought to bring along spares of one kind or another, as well as tools, and we were the best support for each other that we could have asked for. Traveling in a caravan made lots of things easier because this meant that we never had to worry about breaking down somewhere and being completely stranded. We only made one parts stop on our trip, and that was for a front brake hose for my 69; one of mine started to drip right after we left Parma, or at least that's when Dave noticed it. We also made several "emergency" stops along the way when one part or another vibrated loose on John's carbs. I had one tense morning when my engine had turned sour. Turned out to only be the points wore in and closed down. I think we did something like 600 miles/day, but some days may have been longer just to reach our goals. We often stopped to take pictures when we came across good spots, like the Tetons. You don't want to miss those opportunities. We slept in motel rooms, 4 to a room, using the beds and mats on the floor. Camping out would be cheaper, but it takes time to set up and break down the camp. I literally fell in love with Truck Stops for eating. It felt like great food and service, but it may just have been the company. We had a blast. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
