Re: [T3] Spin

The equation seems to be"more advanced timing = more power but

My twin carb has returned from Europe having driven really nicely, but in the
very hot weather it has begun to idle rather slowly and respond less well to the
accelerator, taking more time to build up rpm for pulling away.

It turned out to be the left mixture screw that had unscrewed a turn or so.
First suspicion was due to the very smelly exhaust, but the CO meter confirmed
it. Screwing in the control increased the idle rpm back to normal and the
accelerator response is fine again.

Maybe you've got too rich a mixture, which is then popping in the exhaust, or
maybe there's a misfire with too early a spark that leaves unburnt mixture to
pop.
A little more advance usually produces better response, but it is also more
likely to cause piston damage over a period of time.
