I'm pretty sure that's not the styrene, it's just starch. The styrene is the monomer chemical which the catalyst (hardener) polymerises to harden into the shape it has become when soaked into the glass mat in the mould. Micro balloons are used with resin to make a very light-weight filler paste or resin adhesive - eg for filling surface imperfections or weave in a composite aircraft.
