First off, do you have the clips out?? Have to ask. :=)
If you don't have the proper tool, use a short 3/8" extension (3" long)
on the end of a 6" or longer extension. Then use a steel or brass
hammer. I drive them towards the center. 
There will be some varnish on the pins. This is why they can be stuborn.
