I have a little piece of thin board I cut out to match a pattern in one
of my Type 3 books, I think it's the Orange one:

It lays on the little "finger" and drops down into the hole, as you mentioned.

I also recently bought a weird tool on eBay that clips on there with a little
spring-loaded clamp but I haven't tried it yet.

Or I eyeball it...
