corvair issues were due to the heavier engine and it gave a very 'tail heavy' feeling to the car, they wanted to do and end swap under hard driving conditions, much like the early 911s did. the monza spyderd cars had great handling characteristics... and the 140hp turbo was/is a kick to drive when performing properly!
the t34 is still basically a type 3 platform and it's f/r weight balance is similar to other 3s.

Back in '89 i was working the summer in my buddies Auto Shop. In comes this guy and asks prices for an engine overhaul. - And what kind of car do you have...? Lo and behold - a turbo Corvair Monza! A pretty rare bird up in scandinavia... Of course we had to do this thrilling job!

It was quite fun and interesting, and not that difficult when you already had some VW experience (no offence GM friends, but it made it clear to me how superior the engineering on the VW's really are!).
A bit hard to get by the right spare parts, though, at least here in Sweden.

We got the darn thing running pretty well at last. It had a bad habit throwing off the fan belt, but that probably was due to our inability to adjust it correctly :-( The car is still around town, and running nicely!
It was ,well, *interesting* to drive - great power of course, but this particular car had quite swampy suspension compared to a Type 3. It appeared to have the same type of IRS rear suspension as the Corvette. With stiffer shocks, a camber compensator and a bit more precise steering I think it could have been a really nice ride.

I don't think the engine is *that* much heavier than a VW Type 4 engine. Kennedy used to sell VW conversion kits. (BTW, the Swedish street racing scene in the early 80's was frequently trafficed by a guy in a 54 bug sleeper running a VERY hi-po turbo Corvair engine.)
