Here's my thoughts: Yes, he may have done much to promote the Type and the Registry is a valuable resource but that doesn't mean it HAS to be THE Type 34 resource. If someone truly wanted to improve the Registry then they could easily start their own! If willing to volunteer their time then it could be free. Expect to start out small but if people like the environment they will promote it and it will grow. I just look at how this list started and it's really grown, mainly by word of mouth! Classifieds not open (free) to the public? Give me a penny-pinching break! <roll eyes> I consider The Samba THE VW classifieds. I consider this list THE T3 resource. Others try to do the same, maybe improve or put their own spin on it, but the obvious owner dedication/upkeep shines through (Everett and Greg). The fact that everything is FREE really helps and attracts 'customers'. I know that this list isn't 100% free but those of us who know of the lists importance have donated to keep it going. I don't know Everett's costs but programming alone is time/money (I play a computer programmer in real life ;-) as well as server space and internet connection & domain registration. In the end it's the friendly, informational service that attracts people. Blah blah blah...anyhoo, I believe if someone truly wanted to have an improved T34 environment they would put the time and dedication in to do it. Didn't the Registry 'disappear' for a little because no one wanted to keep it going? As long as Lee is the only one to keep it going I say he can run it how he wants as long as people are willing to put up with it (key phrase there :-) Toby Erkson -- air_cooled_nut@pobox.com '72 VW Squareback, '95 VW Jetta, '81 Gold Wing http://www.icbm.org/ Portland, Oregon ----- Original Message ----- ...
