Remove the plastic hinge covers carefully, because they are very brittle by now. Look inside each one for signs of metal shavings that have fallen out of the hinge. One of them will show a bunch of recent shavings which are probably from one of the pivot points which has worn out. YOU MUST BE CAREFUL HERE. If you are careless you can lose a finger if something slips unexpectedly. Keep your hands clear of the works. Some of the pivots in there are removable pins which you might just be able to replace. Others are rivets which can sometimes be drilled out and replaced by the other kind of pin. You MAY have to replace the hinge on that side. I have good used hinges, springs, and pins. If you have to unbolt the rear door, then you must remove it completely. If you try to let one hinge sopport the whole door you will destroy that hinge. You may need a second person to support the rear door while you remove it, and extra hands and proper tools to install and release the hinges and springs may come in handy. Be very careful. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe, E-mail to: <type3-off@vwtype3.org> For more help, see http://vwtype3.org/list/
