I totally agree with Everett that the Registry is a worthwhile organization. It is a great source of info on the Type 34, although it does have certain downsides that make it somewhat unpalatable sometimes. The majority of members are very helpful, there is lots of good info at the site, and the yearly fee is definitely worth it. As for a parts source, however, I have had FAR more success using the German eBay than getting stuff from other Registry members. Possibly this is because I have a late model car and most Registry people have early ones. >Type 34s are, in general, money pits. That could probably be said of a >lot of your Type 3s too. ;) Like so many things, this is true, and yet not necessarily so. If I had followed some bad advice that I got at the beginning, I could have spent an absolute fortune on parts. However, I have since learned that if you are not in a hurry, and you keep an eye open and let the parts come to you, good parts can be found cheaply, mostly from Germany.. I have actually been accused by certain nameless people in the Registry of being "cheap", but I have actually cut very few corners and almost all of the parts I have found have been good-condition used parts from correct-year cars. Anyway, I admit I am cheap, and proud of it :~) Daniel Baum 1969 Type 34 automatic http://www.qldesign.com/type34 ------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe, E-mail to: <type3-off@vwtype3.org> For more help, see http://vwtype3.org/list/
