Back in the 80«s I was busy customizing an old bug with a -67 1500 pan, 
which had swing axles. The bug tranny was crap, so I tried to put in the 
complete drivetrain I had robbed from a swingaxle fasty, along with the 1600 
engine. (This was years before I got enlightened about the greatness of the 
Type 3... Besides, the poor donor car was a totally wrecked rustbucket!)

It was a bit complicated - I had to swap the axles and the outer tubes from 
the old tranny, because the length was about an inch wrong for the bug pan, 
(IIRC). The type 3 axles was longer and wouldnt fit inside the suspension 
arms. Once that was fixed, I had no problem putting on the complete type3 
brake assy«s on both sides. Alreay had discs in front.
-Boy, that car really had good brakes!
