Brian, your car should have the long/long (long splines & long length) axles on it if it has a 68 swing axle in it. Vw used the long/long combination for 67 and 68 only, and its the same for both type1 and type3. This would make life a little easier for you. Now if the PO used a short/long (short splines & long length) combo the you'd really be up the creek as then you'd have to get the nose of the drum turned down 9/16 of an inch. I have some drums here (both t-1 and t-3), but I'm on the wrong side of the country from you, so shipping would be pricy. Just so that you know, the 68 and later bug drum uses the same length splines as ALL type3s, so you can put the bug drums on for now and later when you get the type3 parts install them as a direct bolt on. I hope this helps.
