These are ring like pieces of rubber that make up the difference in the size of the hose (the large diameter one). This hose should also be checked for cracks and moisture (fuel), as I had to replace this hose on my wife's Fasty to get rid of the fuel smell in it. I noticed that it was wet on the outside, so I took it off and looked inside (its cloth braided on the outside) and saw the cracks in it. I got my hose from NAPA, as they were the only ones who stock that kind of hose near me. The smaller "J" shaped hose had already been replaced, and wasn't leaking. I hope this helps.
