Here in Norway, about 60% of all cars drive on studded snow cars, and about 39 of the remaining 40% drive on studless snow tires all winter long. The studs actually have a mission besides providing better grip for your vehicle. They also help to dig into the snow/ice that may be >on the road, the studless tires are just polishing the surface which >makes it even more slippery than usual.
On the other hand, driving on dry/wet roads with studded tires causes a
lot of dust as the studs also tear up the asphalt, causing trouble for people with breathing problems, asthma especially.
