Exactly!... the cruise is set to say.. 70MPH, so it hits the uphill and has to drop to about 68 before the cruise hammers the pedal... Meanwhile Jim has allowed his speed to increase to say 75MPH under light throttle going down the hill previous, so he hammers his pedal at 75 and his engine is able to make more HP at that increased RPM at 75MPH vs 68... so on he goes as I slow. The moral is that there is a price to pay using cruise control... effeciency, and the actual numbers in the Squareback are about 2MPG cruising at 70 in non-mountainous areas.
