A burst filter and an engine fire which ruins everything back there, including 
all the paint, inside and out, is too high a price to pay for a filter that 
seldom needs to be replaced even as often as every 5 years.

I almost never replace that filter unless there is a symptom of a problem 
related to it, and there NEVER is UNLESS the overflow hose has been left broken 
for an extended period.
