Why not use the old spring? > I guess I was not clear about the spring. The spring I'm talking about is the one attached to the bottom of the main diaphragm. The old diapharam material looks brittle and a new one comes with the kit. The spring/ diapharam combination is pressed together and is not able to be separated. On a different note, I obviously do not have VW tool 328d that pre loads the "rocker arm the proper 14 mm (from flange face) bringing the diaphragm to the required assembling position".
