The scariest thing that ever happened to me was the time I was having trouble with the starter in the 72 I had just purchased (from an owner who had given up on it.) There had been a leak in the FI gas return line just above the starter, so it was wet with gas when I removed it. I let it dry off and then took it down my basement to take it apart to replace the brushes, in case that turned out to be the problem. When I finally got the thru bolts loose and pulled the end cap off, about 1/4 cup of gas poured out on my workshop floor, which is about 15 feet from the water heater pilot light. I was terrified that I was about to become part of the wild blue yonder, but threw all the parts in my steel trash can, along with the rags that I quickly wiped up most of the gas with, and ran outside with it all. I hope you are all understand how dangerous it is to let gas fumes get loose in your basement! -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe, E-mail to: <type3-off@vwtype3.org> For more help, see http://vwtype3.org/list/
