I've now been convinced that old glass is more fragile than new. There was a 
good article in Scientific American on this quite a few years ago. Something 
about microcracks promoted by water molecules....

I think it would be really hard to ship such an item. I've seen the boxes that 
Iowa Glass uses to ship NEW windshields and they are pretty special, and VERY 
big.  I don't know if you could have any real assurance of getting it intact.

I have a good OE windshield in my garage, but I would only offer it to someone 
who could pick it up, or meet me somewhere to get it.
