Using the Bentley, we performed the following tests: No-load voltage: Nothing! Test generator w/o regulator: Voltage. Okay, regulator was suspect so we removed the one there (a new unit) and put the old one back in. No-load voltage test was successful as were readings at the fuse box. In-dash voltmeter needle was happily swinging away thru the rpm and various voltage drops. Problem solved...or so we thought. Took car on a drive. After about 5 minutes or less, voltmeter stopped showing charge (needle stopped swinging). Running off battery only. Performed no-load voltage test: Failed. Performed test generator w/o regulator: Failed!! (This is after I saw blue light flashing from the back of the car and Brian yelling "TURN IT OFF! TURN IT OFF! ") Generator is now no good (or so it seems). I don't have an ammeter so we couldn't perform the current test. Also, would somebody please explain how the generator idiot light SYSTEM works? Brian's car does not have an idiot light so that terminal on the regulator is open. I was wondering if we could put a test light on that and how to wire it.
