A common fault with old antennas is that the shield braid in the cable loses electrical contact with the base casting of the antenna. This reduces the antenna sensitivity AND increases engine noise in the radio. You should always check this when reusing an old antenna. Even on an installed antenna, you can check this by unplugging the antenna cable from the radio and checking the resistance from the ground side of the connector to the body of the car. You should have good continuity here or things won't ever work right. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
