RE: [T3] who's doing Type 3 work this weekend?

Damn, I'm still looking for those parts. On Friday I went to look at a 412
with automatic trans that is listed on The Samba for $600. The car started
right up and we drove it around the parking lot (no registration) and then
backed it into the parking slot. I look at the engine and it its dirty with
some oil on the underside, not too much really. I asked about the
compression and was told that the engine had 150 on all four cylinders. I
mentioned the gas heater and asked if it ran but the shop guy had no clue
about it so I said lets hop in and see if it will fire up. We get in and
with the heat lever up, turn the switch and nothing:( So I'm thinking that
maybe it needs to be running and ask the guy to start the car again. As he
does this I am looking out the back and see a huge cloud of whitish smoke.
I check the oil and the level is almost a quart too high and smells heavily
of gas. I'm trying to decide on whether to make an offer for this beast and
wonder what the list consensus would be on the fuel in oil? Bad rings or
just gas flooding into the cylinders at shutdown and leaking into the oil?
