I know for sure that the 1953 Mercedes 300 SL used a Bosch mechanical system. This car is regarded as the first car ever to use a fuel injection system, and I believe it was loosely based on the diesel injection pumps also developed by Bosch. These used 4 small pistons used to pump the amount of fuel. The pistons were plunged by a small camshaft, the pump was driven by the engine's timing chain.
