The biggest question here is what year of Vanagon did the engine come out of, it was post '73 (I think) then you are basically dealing with a Type 4

Split window transporter (T1 Type 2) until '67, all upright engines Bay window transporter (T2 Type 2) '68 - '79ish o upright through '71 o type 4 pancake starting in '72 (USA, anyway) Vanagon (T3 Type 2) '80ish - ninety-something o aircooled type 4 pancake engine for first several years o watercooled pancake thereafter o pqncake diesels in there somewhere Eurovan (T4 Type 2) ninety-something on o front in-line watercooled engine

	So, an air-cooled Vanagon has the Type 4 pancake...
