There were after market variations, but if you check the following part numbers you'll see (from a 1965 parts book): 311 821 805D 1 set of mud flaps black 375mm with brackets 311 821 805E 1 set of mud flaps white 375mm with brackets Individual part numbers for the mud flaps are: 311 821 811D (left, black) 311 821 812D (right, black) 311 821 811E (left, white) 311 821 812E (right, white) Also I found these for the Type 3 Ghia. This are from my 1961 parts book: 343 821 805 (Typ3 Ghia, black set) 343 821 805A (Typ3 Ghia, white set) The interesting thing is that the black flaps have M code of M290, which was available only in The Netherlands. White have no M-marking. Since my '65 Notch was originally shipped to The Netherlands, I guess it makes since that is has the remnants of black mud flaps on it.
