	Painting needles to match the old style is a pretty 
straightforward way to keep your car's original look when you convert 
from 6V to 12V.  For example, just paint the needles red in a 12V gas 
gauge and a 12V clock, pop them in, and you're all set.

	I recently did kind of the reverse -- I have all "old" gauges 
with red needles, converted internally to run on 12V where 
appropriate, installed in my 1969 Squareback.
