RE: [T3] '67 Ignition switch problems

Three cheers for the list (and a lot of patience)!

I finally got the ignition working and IT HAS A SPRING RETURN! See:

 http://www.hoopes.net/dan/square/current.html

for the updated pics and comments. I've had to get rid of my habit of
pulling it back because the spring is there now! (no more explaining when I
give the keys to anyone - which I rarely do, but it's always scary)

What do you guys think about the paper I used and the solder on the
contacts? Will that bring future problems?

Hopefully, a relay will take the brunt of the effort away from these little
contacts. Speaking of current and such, does this little contact have to
carry all the current that is being used to run anything that is on when the
key is in the "on" position? Did VW put some kind of relay anywhere that
takes the job of putting all that current through?

If not, I need to do that. What is the best way to wire it? Should I put
in two relays, one for the starter and one for key-switched items? Can I
just pull 12V (unswitched) off the fuse block and use that to power my relay
and then pass the original wires through the relay-switched points? Relays
hardly take any current to run, right? If someone could do a quick, simple
circuit diagram to show the connections for the relay(s), that would be very
helpful.

What should I use to lube this thing up when I put it back together?

There was something like wheel bearing grease in there when I took it out,
but I've used solvent to get everything bare. Would wheel bearing grease
work, or maybe just some multipurpose grease?
