My Compufire Distributorless ignition system sucks 8amps and other after-market
systems can consume more. Now add a rainy night behind a 18-wheeler going down
hill (so you're using your brakes ;-) with the CD player pumping out the
music...
What's wrong with having a little more power (using an alternator) than
necessary? Especially when you can do it without permanently altering the
engine? Only those who want to stay 100% stock need worry.
