You only want the preheated air for warmup. If you continue to feed it warm/hot air it won't be happy, and it won't run as strongly (hot air is less dense.) Something b*g?!? Fish? [Sidedraft?] It's hard to imagine why you would want to drop back to that arrangement. How are your dist advance mechanisms?
