You only want the preheated air for warmup. If you continue to feed it warm/hot 
air it won't be happy, and it won't run as strongly (hot air is less dense.) 
I'm not sure whether it will actually make the engine run hotter.

It's hard to imagine why you would want to drop back to that arrangement.
How are your dist advance mechanisms? They BOTH have to be working, and 
smoothly, to get the best fuel efficiency.
