Have you ever heard of the concept of 'product interchangeability'? VDO was one of those companies that was involved in this concept for many years now....this saved company costs in manufacturing. A lot of 'official' VW accessories available today were off a DKW too. I think you may have far too much time in your hands...I have an NOS exact 'Petri' horn ring like the one on the photo that you sent me by the way....yes it is Petri like the VW horn buttons.
