It is very odd, and I've never noticed it before. I will go out and
investigate further in a while.

Well yes its true that these were not the original carbs, but they have the
late throttle plate so they have the correctly positioned vacuum take off,
and it didn't do this before- this is something new. No this is a simple
mech/vac advance distributor and I believe it to be the original one. I've
had it apart in the past and was suprised at what good unworn condition it
all was inside.

Yes it was me, but I don't think this is the issue here as I set these carbs
up to exactly match the originals, and they have the late style throttle
plates which is where the vac is taken from on the originals.
