Yeah my 68 squareback has a black strip at the bottom of the door panels about 3 inches wide. I was told they are original door panels and they are definitley very old. It would make sense to me to have a black stip at the bottom where they will eventually get scuffed up by shoes and whatnot. Coincidentally this is why tires are black. If you look at tires on very early cars they were white. As you can imagine white tires would get grungy looking very quickly so they color them black.
