Totally... I wasn't meaning to argue with you. I find
it strange that the added smog stuff on the pre-1973
engines supposedly didn't impact hp by even one hp. I
would doubt very much that this is the case.

As it stands, and given your explanation of how these
figures were usually arrived at (kind of in a vacuum),
I basically have no faith in *any* of the stated
figures in the microfilm, owners manuals or
promotional material. :)

Well, we're Americans don't you know, and we have a
god-given right to drive whatever we want, whenever we
want for practically no fuel cost.

Bill Mahr notes in his most recent book (not sure
where he gets his figures) that if we reduced the
average fuel consumption in the country by 2.7mpg, we
could completely eliminate our need for all oil coming
from the Middle East.

Wow... Energy policy impacts national security. Who'd
have thunk it?
