If someone painted the needles, I can't really say... I don't know if 
they're supposed to be a different color or not, but yes, they are red. 
:)  As far as the gaping hole goes, yes it's there and I am aware of 
it.  Doesn't this hose just draw/push air to the heater boxes on the 
exhaust?  I'll replace it for sure but if it is an integral part of the 
cooling system I'll get on it ASAP.
