asked an my local VW boneyeard abut T3 "cool tin". I was told that it was a one year only item and was not needed. When I pulled the engine it had the small (relatively) flat deflectors below the cylinders that I've seen on T1 engines. Is there really an advantage to using "cool tin"? It gets pretty hot down here in Texas. I figure the engine can use all the help it can get.
