I'm pretty sure this is just fiction. EMP only effects solid state devices, so 
my old tube type radios, TVs, and stereos won't be affected, but the solid 
state ones will be toast, permanently, I believe.

It's likely that some devices will survive, and this would depend on the range 
to ground zero and the complexity of the device. Complex devices like our 
computers would be more vulnerable, while simple electronics like our D-
Jetronic brains would be more likely to survive.

I think it is likely that most of us would find our cars disabled. But the 
extra brains in my basement just might survive. ;-)
