Tilt the mirror face down so you can get a good grab on the stem. Grab it and press your thumb on the base; yank backwards. The mirror will pivot at the base and pop out of its retaining spring. To install it, start the base into its slot and hold it there with one hand while you hit the base hard with the heel of your other hand.
