I have found that the injector connectors are often loose by now. Replacement injectors seem to have thinner male connector tabs than the originals and the female halves have to be tightened to give a reliable contact. > Then while I was driving over to my local mechanic for some peer review, > the oil light started to flicker at low idle. All you need is enough to fill the clearances at the edges of the gears so the pump will prime right away. I'd like to know how much Russ normally uses. > (2) I did not do anything with cleaning out the oil passages in the case. > Maybe this was a grave error. Most people never clean out the passages, but RIMCO offers an option to drill and tap all the oil passage plugs so you can clean them. I believe Bob Hoover has commented on the amount of junk that accumulates at the "corners" of some of the passages. The time when this is most inportant is if you are re-using a case that has been thru a catastrophic breakdown, where metal bits might have gotten into the oil passages. > (3) I was extremely diligent checking the bearing seating, and the > case torqued together without problems, so I don't think bearing seating > is an issue. Don't give up so soon. You may be just fine. Make sure your cooling system (thermostat, linkage, & flaps) is all working. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
