Re: [T3] Hills and heat

Daniel,

I'm curious: are you climbing steep driveways at low very low
speed, cruising around town, or taking on long, steady grades on the
highway at high speed?

The first thing to remember is to let the engine get to high revs
so that its full power is available. Naturally, this means shifting --
whether downshifting by hand, or via the kickdown switch. The AT will
eventually downshift to get the revs up, but you will often know better
that you need power; just give it the signal via the kickdown or a manual
shift of the lever.

Are you going to at least 35mph in 1st and at least, oh, I dunno,
60mph or so in 2nd? (Sorry, I assume you'll need to convert to kph.)

I find that on the highway, my car will *hold* a high speed on a
steep grade, but, if I lift up on the gas and slow down a bit, it
typically cannot recover the high speed I was holding. I also sometimes
get the impression that I can do some grades at, say, 70-75mph, but *not*
65. 65 is revving too high for my liking at 65 in 2nd, and is too luggish
in 3rd. I haven't tested this enough to say for sure, though.

If you're starting up a very steep hill from a stop, you can't
easily cheat and "ride the clutch" like in a MT car. I find that if my
timing/dwell are off, the car is sluggish on takeoff from idling @ a stop
in general; this is more noticeable when starting off uphill.
