This (very common) issue is not, I believe, caused by the solenoid. I 
had the same problem on Bugs and the real cause was that typical 
voltage loss issue between ignition switch and solenoid. Adding a 
simple relay in that circuit fixed it.

It seems the solenoid just has a lot more resistance when it gets hot 
down there.
