I don't know about the thumping sound, but if your oil has been in there since march-I think you need an oil change. I try to change mine every 3 months or 2000 miles (minimum). As for loose sounds...how does the sound react when you rev the engine? -kevin guarnotta '65 kombi '71 sqbk somerville, ma -----Original Message----- From: janina [mailto:neen_44@yahoo.com] Sent: Thursday, August 07, 2003 12:47 AM To: type3@vwtype3.org Subject: Re: [T3] i might start crying.... took the engine cover off, nothing looks out of the ordinary. no oil mess except for around the cap and i checked the oil and there's enough in there but it's kind of dirty. i just had a thorough oil change in march. i don't drive it every single day, mainly on the weekends and even then i barely take her out, so i don't think it's due for an oil change just yet. it starts, but it sounds rough and something sounds loose. it's making a kind of thumping noise?? i can't describe it but to me it sounds like something is loose. --- Greg Merritt <gregm@vwtype3.org> wrote: > > I think you'll need to start with a visual > inspection.
