That sounds fine.   ;-)

Huh? You actually hammered on the dist to drive it into the case? Sure, there 
are LOTS of things that could be damaged, but the most likely problem is that 
you now have a dist that you will never be able to get out again when you need 
to. If it did not want to go in easily, the thing to do was to find out why and 
fix that problem. Of course, sometimes it's just the O-ring that is tight and 
all you need is a bit of oil on the O-ring and in the bore.

Can you twist it to adjust the timing easily?
