First off... you went in the wrong direction with the oil, as the engine
gets older and looser you want to change to a thicker oil, even 20W50 but
only in the summer... it will then burn less for your emission test.

I cant believe even california emission tests 30 year old cars....
rediculous!

There are several things you can do to get it through emissions, make sure
the cyl head temp sensor is down to less that 100 ohms... make sure your
charging voltage is up around 14, and if all else fails, you can always pick
up another pressure sensor and lean it up for the test... it may not run
well that way but will pass the test.
