<x-charset utf-8>In trying to understand why my oil cooler was leaking so badly I came up with the following: I had three sets of cooler seals in my gasket kit one set was really thick, two sets were thin. The two thin sets were nearly identical, except that the outer diameter of the sealing part was slightly larger on one and there was a slight tightness on those when I put them in the case. The other set was not tight when I put them in the case In the bad leak scenario, I had used the thin, untight set. Also I used the spacers. I determined that the spacers were too thick as you could feel metal-metal contact from the cooler to the spacers by just laying the oil cooler over the seal without any tightening. So probably during my massive leak there was hardly any pressure on the seals. so what I have decided to do is go without the spacers as there is just no way to make them work to avoid squeezing the seals too much i am tightening them delicately does this sound reasonable and prudent? jim rustad seventy one fi square ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org </x-charset>
