The mounting screws for the cover would have grounded it already. > 2. If not 3-1, or WD-40, what then? The 3-1 oil that I don't care for is in a red/white can. That stuff gums up after awhile. I've heard the veg oil rumor, too, but I don't know if it is true. 3-1 also sells an electric motor oil in a blue/white can. In general, this stuff seems to be fine. For a clock, I'd try to find clock oil, or at least something light like sewing machine or fishing reel oil. Add it sparingly. I use a straight pin to dip in the oil and then transfer a tiny drop just to the bearing area. You don't want the oil to run out on all the surfaces where it can pick up dirt. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
