I do not think my engine overheated because of my overcooling oil system (pre filtered 145 plate multiple fan oil cooler). I always use Semisynthetic 20W-50 motor oil and the dipstick is just warm to the touch. The #4 cylinder is not scuffed and the piston does not look burned at any other area other than the hole part which is located on the down side of the piston face, maybe something fell in and poked a hole in the piston thus starting all this additional piston damage, this would account for the bottom of the piston face damage, like the object dropped to the bottom via gravitational pull. The head has no golden color (burned oil) to account for overheating , my head temp sensors never saw anything above 300 degrees on the exhaust side area. I guess the only thing I can account for damage, is a foreign object though the intake or pinging, knocking or pinking , whatever you prefer to call it. Also the total seal piston ring or the top ring might have broken and accounted for the foreign object. If it was a piston ring that broke and caused the piston damage, why would a ring break ? I will not use the Total Seal rings anymore since I feel uneasy about this . Except for the Total Seal second ring, my pistons, cylinders, and rings have 70,000 miles on them, my bottom engine end has 50,000 miles on it with very good oil pressure . i have never seen the oil light flicker no matter how low the idle is, only when I ran out of oil ( 2 times, stupid me), I think I have no damage on the bottom end since it always has cool filtered oil. I will only replace the pistons cylinders and rings. I have just purchased a Kolbenschmit kit at the local VW parts store, the kit includes pistons, cylinders, rings, pushrod tubes and a full gasket kit for 129 bucks . Is this a good brand ? Though undamaged , both of my heads need replacing because I did a bad thing, when replacing heads, one is still the the infamous MOFOCO head with big valves and the other is the Mexican VW dealership head with valves so small they look like they came from a lawn mower. I will purchase two new VW Mexican heads with bigger valves from The Bug Patch to replace my severyly mismatched set, 120 bucks each head, these heads always run the coolest, according to my head temp gauge. My last compression as of last week was 110 lbs on #1 115 lbs on #2 120 lbs on # 3 and 50 lbs on the broken #4 cylinder. This is very good for 70,000 miles on these items, but will be replaced. I will now purchase a head temp sensor for each cylinder to monitor all head temps and get a head temp quad gauge from Westach, that way I can monitor all 4 cylinders at the same time, shortly after I will install the fuel mixture sensor/gauge set. Hopefully i will not break my car again and will promise to my engine to only use premium fuel and not Tijuana or ARCO regular gas, I vow to change my oil every 3000 miles and not every 12,000, I will check my sparkplugs every 3000 miles and not when my engine experiences damage. I have not been able to break my sinful ways of high speed, it is a vice that I am fighting, anything lower than 80 mph seems to slow in this car. It is the fault of my auto tranny's rear drive ratio and the EFI , which causes me to go faster with little effort. After I fix the car, I will paint it the most annoying color I can find, maybe tweety bird yellow , any suggestions for the maximum annoying color ? This will fit my new surf board. Questions again: If it was a piston ring that broke and caused the piston damage, why would a ring break ? Kolbenschmit ,Is this a good brand ?
