Well, I was going to drive the 69 square to the Puyallup show. I had been having trouble with the car not wanting to start after being hot. So, I thought I'd adjust the valves and torque the head bolts I could reach. When I pulled the valve cover I noticed there was a washer sitting in the bottom of the cover. It had been partially obliterated. It is not a rocker assembly washer. I have never totally disassembled an engine, so I am not sure of its origin. Anyhow, I knew the engine was weak (low compression, leaks a ton of oil, etc.)so I decided I'd give a rebuild a try. I've done as much as built up from a short block, but nothing this extensive. Everything went fairly well (except trying to get the muffler off). I cannot get the fan off, however. I made a homemade puller (like the one they show in Bentley), but it still won't budge. Any suggestions? Joe ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
