Some years ago I wrote up a FAQ to explain how to R&R the early (61-72) seats without damaging the almost irreplacable seat rail guides under there. The problem is that the steel rails are easily bent in this process and the guides will break right away if they are put back in place on bent rails. For a long time I made it my policy not to send out this FAQ except to people who bought their rails from me, as I have a small stock of these which I have acquired over the years. I've finally "seen the error of my ways" and this FAQ is now available to anyone who requests it. You can also post it on the web site if you wish, Greg. For those still looking for these parts, I'll remind you that I still have some for sale. Mine are NOS, genuine VW. I have bought them at prices varying from dirt cheap to exorbitant, however, so I can't afford to sell them for cheap. the price is $15 each. I won't sell inners alone, but if you buy a set of 4 I will pay ths shipping. Unrelated to this, the University of Wisconsin had their Engineering Expo this weekend and I just spent the day there. One of the things that would have interested many of you was a little wind tunnel model of the new Ford GT (modeled after the Ford GT-40 of the sixties.) The interesting thing about this was that it was done at about 1/4 scale in carbon fiber composite. Did you work on this, John Jaranson? It looks like it would have been fun. The full-size car is expected to have unstressed carbon fiber body panels (why bother?,) but no one there could answer the question of why they also bothered to actually make the model out of carbon fiber.... It was certainly cute, but I'd say it's mostly a gimmick. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
