My rear drums sometimes squeak during braking. No > uneven wear, everything is adjusted correctly. Car stops and drives > just fine. Get a heavy spring, about the size of a screen door spring, but as thick and strong as you can find. Cut it about 4" smaller than the rear drum outside circumference. Bend the ends so you can hook them together and force it over the drum, all the way up against the ridge on the inside. This tends to damp the vibrations and had always eventually worked for me. For some reason it does not always work right away. I have a source for such a spring that has wire in the range of .080-.100 dia. I did my 73 with this a few years ago and it worked. If there's lots of interest in this I can order a bunch of these and prep them for our drums. > I remember a discussion from a few months back that left me with the > impression that some brands or types of shoes just squeak more than > others. I'm not sure, but I've heard that disk pads which actually contain asbestos tend not to squeak, while the more environmentally modern ones make noise. I really don't know about this, but I've not had any trouble myself with pads which were anything better than poor. I have good pads for sale which have worked well for me. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
