Hi all- I've got a '62 Type 3 Ghia and I'm trying to find a couple
things out.
Welcome to the list. Nice to have another early Ghia owner. Do you know
your car's production date?
1. What distributor came with my car?
I've got a 1600 with the original side-draft carb re-jetted for 1600.
Would the original dizzy work well in my motor? Would the advance
curve be sufficient?
The original distributor for 62 was 311 905 205 (Bosch # ZV/PAU 4 R 4
or ZV/PAU 4 R 6) which had a large diameter body and had similarities
to Type 1 distributors of the time. There were a number of other single
carb distributors made subsequently, and the newer versions superseded
the early parts in the VW parts list, so their performance
characteristics are probably not very different.
2. I'm hoping to add some sort of handling improvement for the back
end- I see the ones for swing-axle type 1s everywhere, but never see
the ones for type 3s... any suggestions?
Many swingaxle owners have installed camber compensators with good
results. I'm not sure what the difference between a Type 1 and Type 3
compensator would be -- spring length?
